50 Great examples of data visualisation

A subject I've been interested in lately, is how all this data we are creating
and uploading on the "Interwebs" is being used to highlight particular
aspects of humanity. Showing us a slice of our existence...

This article gives a nice run-down of the most popular data visualisation projects.

Spezify.com - search visualisation tool, aggregating different social media

Just discovered this neat search tool - Spezify.com

Spezify.com pulls from a number of social media platforms and other online sources to present a visual search result - aiming to show "the bigger picture".

My search for "ozia09" resulted in this nice collage:

Australian Web Week

This week, the first "Australian Web Week" will be hosted around the country.
http://webweek.com.au/

Sadly, I won't be able to attend any of the events this year...
But, this does mean I'll have the opportunity to experience what it's like to
follow these popular web community events online.

I was able to follow the OZ-IA 2009 conference minute by minute on Twitter.
So many people were tweeting, it was almost like being there (ok... almost -
did miss out on the excellent grub, games and peeps).
#ozia09 on Twitter

Looking forward to the rest of my virtual #webweek experience.

Following the buzz:
Australian Web Week 2009 - #webweek on Twitter
Web Directions South 2009 - #wds09 on Twitter

The economics of privacy in social networks

http://www.lightbluetouchpaper.org/2009/06/26/the-economics-of-privacy-in-social-networks/
This scholarly paper is definitely worth a thorough read:
"The Privacy Jungle: On the Market for Data Protection in Social Networks"

Privacy has always been a concern of mine. Online and off-line.
I am one of those annoying people who actually opens and reads the
"privacy policy" and "terms and conditions" before I sign up for a service.
But lately, I've reluctantly had more of a "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude.
Not a good idea...
